Byron Center Public Schools continues to monitor the latest coronavirus (COVID-19) developments throughout the nation and specifically here in Kent County. BCPS is working closely with the Kent County Intermediate School District (KISD) and the Kent County Health Department (KCHD) with the guidance of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). We are meeting regularly to discuss the potential impact on our school district and our community if the virus should spread to our area. BCPS continues to follow the guidance of local, state, and federal health officials. We are making decisions with guidance from these organizations.
We will continue to seek feedback from the CDC regarding those who travel and return to our district. Please know our priority is to keep our district a safe environment for our staff and students. The latest and most current information can be found on the KCHD website.
As a continual reminder from the KCHD and CDC, the best prevention for viruses, such as influenza, the common cold, and the coronavirus is to:
➔ Wash hands often with soap and warm water for 20 seconds. If not available, use hand sanitizer.
➔ Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
➔ Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or upper sleeve when coughing or sneezing.
➔ Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
➔ If you are sick, stay home and avoid contact with others.
BCPS does ask that anyone who exhibits symptoms of the coronavirus stay home until they are symptom free for 24 hours or as advised by your physician. BCPS will continue to disinfect our facilities and continue to plan with staff and local and state agencies. We will keep you informed of any impact to group events, district-sponsored travel, or school changes. We appreciate your cooperation and trust as we work together for everyone’s safety.
