Dear Families and Community Members:

As we come to the close of the 2019-2020 school year, thank you for your support and care. The last three months have been like no other within education, the state, nation, and world. On behalf of our teachers, administrators, and staff, I pass along our sincere and grateful appreciation for partnering to make the most significant impact on your child’s success.

Heading into the summer months, we are hopeful that it brings your family welcomed rest and the return toward normalcy. We understand that there are many unknowns and many questions to be answered. We continue to partner with KISD (Kent Intermediate School District), MDE (Michigan Department of Education), KCHD (Kent County Health Department), and other state agencies for the re-opening of Room to Bloom, athletics, fine arts, camps, and other programs that commonly take place during the summer. BCPS will keep you informed when those programs may return with a schedule built around health and safety.

Over the summer, BCPS will develop multiple plans for returning to school in the fall. Our ultimate goal is to have all students back to school for the start of the year. We will have contingency plans if we are not able to do that. As we have in this pandemic, we will rely on state and local agencies as we plan for a safe and secure return. You are beginning to see in the local media discussion on how back to school may look in the fall. We will keep you updated throughout the summer.

During this time, our Byron Center staff had to revamp how we deliver teaching and learning quickly. As we begin to plan, we request your help in giving feedback on the opportunities over the past few months and future needs. BCPS has partnered with KISD to survey our parents to gain insight on how to serve our students best for school in the fall.

A clear understanding of the needs of your child will help us prepare for the future. The survey results will focus our work on the plan for the 2020- 2021 BCPS school year.

Thank you for your continued support of BCPS. We indeed are in this together, and we value your input as we make decisions that impact all students in BC.
